Marketing & SEO

How to manage redirects in Shopify?

Create a list of old URLs and their new destinations - my SEO & Site Performance report is useful here as it highlights your 404 pages.

Then use your platform’s redirect tool (in Shopify: Content → Menus → URL Redirects → Create URL Redirect) to point visitors from outdated links to the right pages.

This maintains traffic and protects SEO.

You can also bulk import 404s via CSV if preferred.

How to rename image files for SEO?

Use descriptive, keyword-focused filenames that clearly reflect the image content. Separate words with hyphens (not underscores), keep it concise, and avoid special characters.

For example, rename IMG_1234.jpg to red-wool-scarf.jpg. This helps search engines understand your images and can improve your site’s SEO.

Analytics & Optimisation

What is run rate and how do I calculate it?

Run rate is a way to project your future performance (sales, revenue, or other metrics) based on current data. It assumes that current trends will continue for the rest of the period.

How to calculate:

  1. Take your current performance over a specific period (e.g. weekly or monthly sales).
  2. Multiply it to project over a longer period (e.g. yearly).

Example:

  • Monthly revenue = £10,000
  • Run rate for the year = £10,000 × 12 = £120,000

This gives a quick estimate of future results if current trends continue.
